What is a hex head lag screw?

Hex head lag screws, or hex head lag bolts, are the most common and heavily used style. They are used in fastening lumber together or connect lumber to masonry. Decks, docks, swing sets, arbor construction are some of the common uses for lag screws. Steel, stainless steel and galvanized steel are the most common materials.

Lag Screws also known as Lag Bolts or Coach Screws are a type of wood screw but usually larger with lengths up to 36" and diameters from 1/4" to 3/4". Designed to fasten heavy lumber together, or wood to masonry/concrete. They are stocked in steel with zinc or galvanized
finishes and also in stainless steel. While Lag screws can be found in any hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes they are usually sold in smaller quantities and can be very expensive. Also, the size ranges are limited to the more common ones. Aspen Fasteners offers a very wide range of sizes in bulk quantities at wholesale prices. We even offer Din 571 Metric dimensions.
